What can you tell us about dear Mr.Ding the new party secretary? Is there more / less hope with him ?

IF the rumor turns out to be true, he is clearly XJP's man. Presumably his approach to governing will be in line with current mindset in Beijing. At this point, it would be hard to characterize that as promising. That said, anyone responsible for Shanghai MUST produce economic numbers. So he will have to face the same economic realities anyone else would have to face. The laws of economics do not take orders.

In that case, not much we can do but to hope for some miracle, or as you mentioned- someone who would produce economic numbers and look at science and humanities instead of unsuccessfully try and play god .

stunning success...no doubt 😂... I estimate the daily cost of the lockdown in Shanghai to be around 1 bln $.

it would be good to know the detailed profile of the people who died in the current covid wave, based on their age, gender, existing deseases, vaccination, income etc...To be fair, even the western countries were reticent about that typo of info.

Are early treatments not an option in China? Why the lockdown if there is access to IVM of HCQ?

Expand full comment

Treating yourself with HCQ or IVM is no problem, but very few people have any knowledge and there is no way to get either during a lockdown. In 2020-2021 the medical system used a TCM concoction called qīngfèitāng (清肺汤) which allegedly proved somewhat effective against the earlier variants. Whether or not it has any effect on Omicron is unclear, but in any case apparently these days it isn't always available in the camps. They don't even offer ibuprofen or cough medicine.

Wow. What’s the point of whisking ppl away? You’re better off treating yourself at home, It’s just really hard to believe that there isn’t something nefarious under it all. Democide? Forced shortages for the west? Thanks for your reporting.

Treatment at home is, ahem, the normal approach. That's how it is supposed to work. You get sick, you stay home and get over it. If you stocked up on IVM and/or HCQ in advance (both super cheap and easy to get in normal times), all the better. If not, then you may suffer a bit longer.

Why not follow that time-honored tradition? For one thing, we can guess that SCL is frustrated that the "virus" (or whatever it is that is making people sick) doesn't seem to want to obey her orders.

Judging by her actions, I think we can confidently say she doesn't care about the fate of the people who get deported. The goal seems to be to ship the virus out of the city and confine it to her camps. Given that multiple infection cycles have taken place since she put her lockdown regime in place, that strategy clearly doesn't seem to be working.

Democide as a motive doesn't make sense since even though some unnecessary deaths are taking place, in percentage terms the numbers are tiny. Moreover, China has no mRNA vaccines, no vaccine mandate, no vaccine passports, no rem-death-is-near, no ventilator use and no agenda to maximize deaths. The real primary effect is on the economy and economic confidence. One possible explanation would be to push forward the decoupling process by encouraging foreigners and foreign companies to leave. On purpose or not, this is a very likely result. Another explanation is sabotage by fifth column Rockefeller Foundation stooges. Or... it's just plain old blockheadedness and/or senility at work.

Oh, interesting. I had no idea that there were no vaccine mandates in China. I knew they didn’t have mRNA there but I thought they were shoving their own down peoples’ throats. Decoupling foreign companies from China makes a whole lotta sense too. Which doesn’t exclude fifth column from also happening at the same time. That she is a blockhead is a given. What the people have had to endure...Those videos are heartbreaking.

Just be aware that many videos being shared on Western social media networks may not actually be showing what they claim. For example, I recently saw two videos recently purportedly showing "Shanghai children" going to school in those silly white costumes with blue stripes. This is of course nonsense because the schools in Shanghai have been closed for at least 6 weeks now. There is no shortage of tragedies on the ground, but they are seldom captured in videos. My subjective impression is that for most, besides the uncertainty, the callousness of official policies is the second most irritating part about what is going on.

What about that video of suicides? And the one with the cats in the bags? The one you shared with the audio captures was pretty chilling.

Re cats in bags - who knows where that one is from or what the story was. It could be anywhere. There is no policy in Shanghai to kill pets but in extreme situations there will of course also always be crazy people who do outrageous things which would considered unacceptable according to normal moral standards. There were definitely a few suicides. One was an old woman who was sick and in pain and could not get any help. Very sad. The people who are actually sick get no help. Instead all the "medical" resources are used to cart off mostly healthy people to SCL's camps.
