yellow lights ban is hilarious - we don't want you to choose - you will be told to stop or go - no exceptions - love that. Even if someone knew that this was going to result in chaos - they were too scared to tell the boss - which i think is the root of nearly everything you mention - constructive criticism is not even a term they know.
Because Chinese people fail completely at critical thinking. Their primary fear is standing out or causing disharmony. Being wrong about something important takes a distant second place.
That's why Chinese people's vaccination rate is so high (irrespective of the country they live in) and why they still wear face masks today.
Completely fail? That seems a bit broad to put it mildly. Plenty of people immediately recognized that the rule was moronic and said so. That said, you are certainly correct that - as in all countries with high population densities - a preference for ‘going along’ is quite widespread.
Following your guide, and 15 days wait time to change my "Real Name", I managed to get a Dutch credit card into WeChat Pay! Thanks.
Dutch welfare is the opposite of "subsidizing the lazy". It is brutally punishing: think unannounced inspections of your home, a public servant checking your bank statements, constant uncertainty due to changing rules. Welfare means replacing an extended family safety net with exploitation.
Still trying to find someone! There's a local shop called "Super Panda" the "Chinese Supermarket". Or perhaps the "Ochama" app which gaining in popularity here (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jd.mca) No luck yet tho.
they are still making new laws and enforcing them retroactively:
give back your bonuses
fines for tech companies who broke the rule in the PAST
impossible to plan for that kind of thinking - but i can't say it does not happen in the USA as well (Trump 965 tax - retroactive 8 years).

How is it possible to turn a fatally flawed policy into actual law without anyway stating the obvious along the way? It's like a Monte Python skit.

India has a higher population density than China, but the people are incomparably less conformist. UK and Netherlands also.
It's an oriental thing. Genetic & cultural.
